KOTA KINABALU, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- Sabah is considered a "fixed deposit" of the Ministry of Information Communication and Culture, for its effectiveness in preserving the cultures of its various races, its minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said on Tuesday.
"Allow me to congratulate Sabah for preserving very well the country's cultures.
"Sabah has no less than 32 tribal races, where each race has culture and arts as our country's heritage," Rais said at the Malaysia Christmas national-level open house here.
Besides that, he also said the strong ties among the various races in the state also contributed to good and effective support and cooperation between the state government and his ministry in having various cultural programmes.
He said both Sabah and Sarawak understood better the meaning of living in diversity and he was confident both states would not stop providing support in holding national-level celebrations of the various races and religions.
On the Malaysia Open House, Rais said the such events nutured nationalism and the affection for a multi-racial society in line with the 1Malaysia concept.
"Events like this are the ingredients of 1Malaysia that we can interpret and therefore provide meaning...we need to ensure that the 1Malaysia spirit is held firmly in our struggle," he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said each time Sabah hosted national events the response from the people was always encouraging.
According to him, the attendance of various races and religions at these events showed the goodwill fostered and was an important element in the development of the state's economy and its people.
"The 1Malaysia spirit does not see differences among us. It also does not stop people of various races and religions to be always united and be cooperative," he said.
