Camp Asturias, Jolo, Sulu (20 January) -- The Sulu Provincial Police Office (SPPO) clarified reports by some sectors which appeared in various publications regarding the alleged ownership of Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan of 2 armored vehicles and its personal use.

In an interview, Sulu Provincial Director, PS Supt. Joseph T. Ramac, MPA (DSC), made it clear that upon his assumption of office early this month and as per records of the office, two (2) armored vehicles in question are being utilized by the Sulu PNP since the second quarter of last year to upgrade the PNPs operational capabilities against terrorist and other lawless elements in the province and was never under the "personal control" of Gov. Tan, as some sectors would like to portray.

In fact, it was through the personal initiative of the Honorable Abdusakur M. Tan that the Sulu Police Force was able to acquire said vehicles without government funding.

"Even my predecessors are very grateful for the all out support shown by Gov. Tan to ensure that the Sulu Police Force is well equipped and ready to respond and protect the safety of our local constituents," added Dir. Ramac.

"Since the ICRC kidnapping, the assassination attempt on Gov. Tan, the ambush and killing of former Police Director Julasirim Kasim and the spate of bombings that rocked the province of Sulu last year, these chain of events are testaments to the fact that equipments and capabilities of our law enforcers must be enhanced. Being the Chief Executive and Elder of the province, Gov. Tan did what needs to be done, and let's not put any malice in actions that are just and proper, this is just a first step in modernizing our Sulu PNP," Dir. Ramac said. (Sulu PIO/PIA9-BST)
