BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi – The 2nd Environment and Economic Summit formally opens Saturday at the Datu Amirbahar Jaafar Convention Center in this capital town with over a hundred economists and environmentalists in attendance.

Tawi-Tawi Gov. Sadikul Sahali said the provincial government is hosting the summit which carries the theme “Tawi-Tawi Environment and Economic Initiatives: It’s Contribution in the Conservation of the Coral Triangle.”

Economic experts and environmentalists will conduct a review and assessment of the province’s economic gains and development including a review on the environmental management code it adopted last year.

“In September 16 and 17, 2006, the province of Tawi-Tawi held the 1st Economic and Environment Summit, and this year we will review what the province have gained and still need to be gained in the coming years,” Sahali said here during a press conference.

“It is also important to consolidate, integrate and harmonize all these into a more focused and well directed blue print of economic development and environmental management for Tawi-Tawi,” Sahali added.
