Violence against Sufi Muslims in Iran

To: Amnesty International

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing you because urgent investigation is required into security forces violence against Sufi Muslims in the City of Boroujerd, Iran and demolishing of their Hosseinieh (place of gathering for prayers).

The latest news from sources in Iran indicate that more than 80 people are injured and 700 peaceful Sufi Muslim, who were arrested in the cities of Boroujerd, Khoramabad, Dorood and its suburbs on November 11, 2007, are still being held in unknown locations. Families of those who remained detained are saying that they have been unable to obtain information about their beloved ones’ whereabouts, legal status, health and conditions. Security forces are going house to house, searching for Sufis and arresting them.

The protest and its repression by the authorities came amid about what appears to be increasing demonization of the Sufi Muslim group in Iran. Unofficial reports are indicating that security forces are also planning to attack Sufi Muslims in the City of Karaj and demolishing their Hosseinieh.

I am requesting you and your organization to take an immediate action to stop this atrocity in Iran.
