ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The latest Filipino deportees who arrived in Zamboanga City from Malaysia are reportedly suffering from skin diseases.
According to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit or (RESU) of the city’s Department of Health (DOH), the number of deportees with skin ailment have reached more than a hundred or 25%.
According to Dr. Marcos Redoble, 20 children and 100 adults have skin diseases.
Redoble said he believes the deportees got infected due to the harsh conditions inside detention centers in Malaysia.
Deportees, meanwhile, said the lack of water made it impossible for them to take a bath regularly inside the detention center.
The medical staff of the city's DOH immediately gave first aid treatment to the deportees. Aside from skin ailments, other deportees are also suffering from tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases. Leila Vicente, ABS-CBN Zamboanga
