MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Naval forces in Western Mindanao announced on Tuesday they had arrested a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf identified as Hamsalain Anjalin in barangay Lagayas, Tipo-tipo, Basilan.

Rear Admiral Alexander Pama said Anjalin was allegedly involved in the beheading of 10 Marines in Albarka, Basilan on July 10, 2007.

He added Anjalin has warrants of arrest for 9 counts of murder.

However, on Wednesday, Bastiya Kanaka, the mother of Anjalin went to Commission on Human Rights to file a formal complaint against the military for the alleged illegal arrest and detention of her son.

Kanaka showed ABS-CBN Zamboanga a document signed by a Marine colonel which states that Anjalin, whose real name is Alima Anjalin, is a civilian informant of the Marines. The suspect has a safe conduct pass.

Mrs. Kanaka was surprised when she found out that her son was arrested by the Marines, the military unit whom her son has been helping for a long time.

The Anjalins also denied allegations that their relative was involved in the beheading of Marines in Albarka in 2007.
