BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi –The provincial government here, in coordination with other government agencies and non-government organizations, has sponsored a two-day “jobs fair” aimed at providing a better access to jobless residents of the province in looking for jobs.

Over 1,000 jobseekers and fresh graduates coming from the 11 towns of Tawi-Tawi were seen trooping to the Datu Amilbahar H. Jaafar Convention Center here to scout for jobs that would fit their educational qualification and work experiences.

Tawi-Tawi Gov. Sadikul Sahali said the affair was aided by the Region 9 office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE 9), the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), and some private institutions.

Sahali said giving a better access to jobseekers in the province is important in order to keep the province moving forward towards development and progress.

It has been the practice of many to visit developed cities in the country to find jobs after completing their four-year course in college.

“But during a jobs fair, it is the employer that will visit the province and offer jobs to jobseekers should their training and educational qualifications fit,” Sahali explained.

Nurjay Sahali, the province executive secretary, described the affair as “very successful and challenging” after the many jobseekers visited the center during the two-day affair here.

The young Sahali said a similar event will be held soon in this town to complement the two-day job fair.

But this time, he said “it would be bigger in scope and more organized to give ample choice to jobseekers searching for jobs.”

The governor here said that at least 11 recruitment agencies for overseas employment from Zamboanga City participated and offered overseas job opportunities.
