JOLO, Sulu – The municipal government here has stepped up the cleaning of drainage canals and the collection of garbage at the commercial and residential districts aimed to free the people of this town from dengue.
Mayor Hussin Amin said cleaning the canals and collecting garbage regularly will deny dengue-carrying mosquitoes from making them breeding sites, particularly during the rainy season.
Amin also emphasized that garbage collection will continue to be on top on his priority list of programs in this town.
The garbage collection campaign here is also aimed at keeping the premier town of Sulu clean from the eyes of the visiting public.
“When I assumed office as mayor of this town, I immediately put into my mind the need to clean the town of garbage because it is a sore to the eyes of the visiting public, as it also becomes breeding site of dengue-carrying mosquitoes,” the mayor said.
Amin said his office has strictly ordered the public service offices here to double their efforts in the collection of garbage in the entire Jolo area.
He claimed Jolo has a sufficient dumping site for garbage in Patikul town, Sulu and could sustain the dumping of garbage in the area for the next 10 to 15 years
