JOLO, Sulu, Philippines – The National Housing Authority (NHA) has allotted some P40 million for the construction of 200 houses for fire victims in Barangay Walled City in this capital town early next month.
Rep. Habib Tupay Loong (1st District, Sulu) said on Monday that the beneficiaries of the project were families who were victims of a fire that razed the village several days before the conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections last year.
Loong said the housing project will have two phases and will be located in a 10,000-square-meter lot in the said village here.
The first phase of the project, he said, is the construction of at least 100 housing units in the area early next month. Each housing unit will cost the government some P200,000.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district office here has been tasked to undertake and supervise the construction of the houses here, he added.
The lawmaker said the project was made possible through the collective effort of his office, Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan, and Jolo Mayor Hussin Amin.
He said NHA officials guaranteed for the early release of P20 million for the construction of the first phase of the project.
He said the three of them have worked hard for the realization of the project and for the early allocation of funds.
“It is through our collective effort, me as the congressman, Governor Sakur Tan, and the mayor of Jolo, Hussin Amin, that the project and its funding were made possible by NHA,” Loong said.
He also acknowledged the effort exerted by Vice President Jejomar Binay for the early approval of the funds for the housing project here.
