Malaysia Wants Philippines To Open Consulate In Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has reiterated the need for the Philippines to open a consulate-general in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to provide consular services to the Filipinos in Sabah.

Wisma Putra said in a statement here Friday that the matter was raised during the Seventh Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in Manila Friday and co-chaired by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Albert F. Del Rosario.

Both governments had agreed during the Second Malaysia-Philippines JCM in 1995 on opening a Philippine consulate-general in Kota Kinabalu and Malaysian consulate-general in Davao City.

The Malaysian Consulate-General in Davao City was opened on Dec 7, 1995.
